This is one of those games that I will remember my first play through like it was yesterday. As I grow older, to find that kind of experience becomes more and more challenging. Mostly because my memory has gone to shit.
But I remember emerging from Vault 101 and seeing this barren wasteland. I was so into the character by this time that it really felt to me as if I was seeing the outside for the first time.
As I began to move around, I was like a scared child that was withdrawn. I would slowly move, scan around and if I saw something move, I would study it from afar. Never too close, never moving upright or fast. Always observing. I didn’t even throw my first attack in the game until probably 2 hours in.
I would scavange the remains of the houses when the coast was clear, finding whatever I could as I continued my journey. I had no idea what may or may not be helpful in this new venture of mine, so I crammed everything I could into my pockets.
Before I even saw Megaton, which was to be my first destination, I saw the world for what it was. People, animals, creatures..just trying to survive with the cards they were dealt. The one theme that sums up everyone, no matter their situation, no matter how bad or well they may be off in their environment, is survival.
